Grants & Foundations Finder is a free search tool that helps you explore grantmaking activity using IRS Form 990 data. You can filter results by state, 501(c) subsection, foundation type, grant purpose, and filing year, then open an EIN to view grant details.

What the data represents

• Form 990 filings are public records submitted to the IRS by nonprofits.
• Grant details (when present) come from schedules and attachments included in the filing.
• Some organizations file on fiscal years, so a “filing year” may reflect a tax period that ended in a prior calendar year.

Tips for better searches

• Start with a state + 501(c)(3) (subsection 03) to narrow results.
• Use “Has grants” to focus on orgs that report grant activity.
• Open an EIN to see grant recipients, amounts, and purposes.
